Suzhou is a famous historical and cultural city. It is the first famous Chinese calligraphy city approved by the Chinese Calligraphers Association. Historically, the Wumen Painting School and the Wumen Book School have a profound influence. Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying also called the "Four Houses of Ming" and "Five Houses of Wumen". They were masters of art in Suzhou in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. Their handed down works carried the unique artistic temperament of ancient Eastern nations. The history of calligraphy and painting has had a huge impact. Shen Zhou and Wen Zhengming of the "Four Ming Family" are from Xiangcheng, Suzhou today. The invitational exhibition of calligraphy works here is of extraordinary significance.
The exhibition invited 38 calligraphy works by leaders of the Chinese Calligraphy City (Hometown) Friendship Association and some Chinese calligrapher cities and hometowns of Chinese calligraphy. Based on the poems of Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying, they have created colorful and diverse calligraphy works. Gongda, Vice Chairman of China Book Association, wrote an inscription for this invitation exhibition. This exhibition made useful explorations on the art exchanges between famous Chinese calligraphy cities and the hometown of Chinese calligraphy.
After the opening ceremony, the leaders and guests visited the Yangcheng Collection—an invitation exhibition to commemorate the famous calligraphy works of the “Four Ming Family” Chinese Calligraphy City (Hometown).
